Who is a Chartered Accountant?

A Chartered Accountant is a professional who does accounting, taxation, auditing, bookkeeping, and financial analysis for an individual or a business. Individuals who have completed all levels of a Chartered Accountancy course are awarded the Chartered Accountancy designation. The Chartered Accountant is accountable for all accounting, taxation, and business-related matters. As a result, a CA expert is involved in all elements of the organisation's finances. Filing tax returns, handling business practices, maintaining transaction records, verifying financial reports, generating financial statements, auditing financial statements, and so on are all part of it. Experienced CA professionals may also provide consulting services to customers on occasion.

About Chartered Accountancy Course

To become a CA, the individual or working professional or student first needs to do the registration. The Chartered Accountancy course in India is registered under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). ICAI is a statutory legal body that looks after the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India. ICAI has framed three levels under the chartered accountancy course. One has to clear all the three CA level exams along with training, then only he/she is eligible to become a CA. The three levels are as follows:

  • CA Foundation Exam
  • CA Intermediate Exam
  • CA Final Exam

Apart from completing the levels, the CA Aspirants must also do 3 years of compulsory Articleship/ Internship Training as amended by ICAI.

The CA course exam of each level is held twice a year; if someone is unable to crack the exam, he/she can try again and attempt again for the exam. However, pursuing CA requires a lot of dedication, devotion, and determination. After clearing all the CA levels, the individual will have access to a plethora of scalable job opportunities.

Chartered Accountancy Eligibility

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India conducts exams and training to become a Chartered Accountant (ICAI). As noted, there are two ways to start the CA course; let's examine both.

1st: Through CA Foundation

To take the CA Foundation exam, a candidate must have passed the 12th class from a recognised board and do the 4 months of study for the CA Foundation. Candidates can register for the CA Foundation course in 12th grade.

2nd: Direct CA Entry

Direct entrance to CA Intermediate requires meeting the following criteria:

  • Commerce graduates/postgraduates with at least 55% total marks can apply. Accounting, auditing, mercantile law, corporate law, financial management economics, direct and indirect taxation, costing, business administration, and management accounting are required.
  • Non-commerce graduates and postgraduates must have at least 60% in any university test (including Open University).
  • Those who have passed the intermediate level Institute of Cost Accountants of India or Institute of Company Secretaries of India exams are also eligible for direct admittance. They can skip Foundation and go straight to Intermediate.
  • Students in the final year can pursue the Intermediate course temporarily. Six months after graduating and completing an orientation course and IT training. 15-day orientation and IT courses are common. During the interim, you can take Orientation and IT tests.
