Introduction

What is the full form of BTech and B.E.?

Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) are undergraduate programmes related to the field of engineering. It is a four-year programme which an accredited university awards. This degree is conferred by the government as well as private institutions.

What is the difference between BTech and B.E?

btech

There is a very thin line of difference between B.Tech and BE.both these courses overlap each other in terms of curriculum.

Let us understand the difference through the definitions listed on Google

Engineering is the branch of science and technology concerned with designing, building, and using engines, machines, and structures. To simply state, Engineering is the application of science and math to solve problems. While scientists and inventors develop innovations, engineers apply these discoveries to the real world.

Technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry—technology results from accumulated knowledge and application of skills, methods, and processes in production and research.

To sum it up,

  • B.Tech is more skill-oriented, whereas B.E. is more knowledge-oriented
  • B.tech is an application-based course, and B.E. is a theory-based course

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria for B.tech and B.E. is the same. The marks for admission vary from college to college.

  • Students must have appeared for HSC with Physics, Chemistry and Math as the core subjects.
  • Students must have scored at least 50% marks in 12th.
  • Students who have completed a 3-year diploma in any engineering stream are also eligible for admission. They directly get admitted in the second year. This is also known as a lateral entry scheme.

Entrance Exam for Engineering courses

be

JEE mains is a national Entrance test which forms the basis for admission in many engineering colleges like IIT. A student must pass 12th with a minimum of 50% marks with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as his core subjects. JEE is conducted 4 times a year, and a candidate must appear for this within 3 years of clearing the 12th.

If you are aiming for admission in the engineering courses, then you must appear for JEE.

Curriculum and course structure

All India Council for Technical Education designs the curriculum for these courses. Both the courses are spread over 8 semesters and 4 years. After the 6th semester, candidates must opt for an internship to complete the course successfully.

Engineering branches

Engineering is a very vast stream with multiple opportunities. A student willing to enrol for an engineering course has many specialization options. These branches are very popular and have great scope for building a successful career.

Trending specializations

Upgradation is an inseparable part of engineering. With the advent and growth of technology, courses undergo up-gradation to match the current market scenario. The traditional and basic course remains the same, but specialization in a particular subject is introduced to add more value to the course. This makes it more job-specific and industry oriented.

Jobs in Public Sector Undertaking:

The central government and state government jointly own public sector undertakings. Firms like BHEL, Hindustan Copper Limited, ONGC and National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) recruit engineers yearly.

Engineering Service Exams

Engineering Services Examination, also known as ESE, is conducted every year by UPSC.it is conducted to recruit engineers in four domains, namely Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunications, for the techno-managerial posts. An interview follows two stages of written examination.

Jobs in the defence sector:

The defence sector owns a technical sector supporting the army, navy and airforce. A candidate must appear for the University Entry Scheme (UES), Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), or Short Service Commission (SSC) Entrance Test after B.Tech to enter this field.

Career counselling for pursuing Btech and B.E. courses

Engineering is a technical field and demands specific skills. A career counselling session is highly recommended for students who are planning to pursue engineering. Students need to understand their strengths. This will help them choose wisely. Additionally they also get to know about their weaknesses. They can start working on them and try to overcome those attributes. Career counselling centres like BRAINWONDERS house a specialized team of career counsellors who analyze the choices and preferences of a candidate and suggest the most suitable career options.
