The NEET qualifying marks, or passing marks, are the minimum scores a candidate must achieve to pass the exam. In contrast, the 2024 NEET cutoff for admission represents the lowest rank at which a candidate will be granted admission. All medical colleges accepting NEET 2024 scores will base their admissions on the NEET cutoff 2024. The cutoff for MBBS admissions in government colleges will be released after the counselling for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats. Similarly, the state-wise cutoff for MBBS admissions in government colleges will be announced following the 85% state quota counselling.

The respective state authorities will release the state-wise NEET cutoff 2024 for both MBBS government and private colleges. This article provides the NEET 2024 result cutoff. The total possible score for the NEET medical entrance test is 720. The NEET results, available at neet.ntaonline.in, are determined using the official answer key for the NEET 2024 exam. The result calculation follows the marking scheme, which specifies:

NEET 2024 marking scheme

Particular Details
Correct answer +4 marks
Incorrect response -1 mark
Unanswered question 0 mark

Using the marking scheme as per the NEET exam pattern, the raw score to be obtained in the NEET exam can be calculated using the formula below.

Formula:

NEET marks = 4 X total correct answers - 1 X total incorrect answers

NEET Answer Key 2024

The provisional NEET 2024 answer key has been released by the competent authority at neet.ntaonline.in. Candidates can challenge the answer key until the specified deadline. The final NTA NEET 2024 answer key was published on June 3 on the official website. This answer key allows candidates to estimate their probable scores in NEET 2024 and is the most reliable tool for evaluating performance in the entrance test. Candidates who wish to challenge any questions can do so by paying a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200 per question. Additionally, various coaching institutes have also released their own NEET 2024 answer keys for all codes, which can be reviewed below.

NEET Merit List 2024

In addition to conducting the entrance test, the NTA is responsible for preparing the NEET UG 2024 merit list for candidates who have opted for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ). This merit list for counselling is based on the NEET results. The list of qualified candidates will be forwarded to the Directorate General of Health Services for seat allocation under the 15% AIQ. The NEET 2024 merit list will be organised by category, as specified during the counselling application process, and will include details such as merit rank, marks, roll number, and percentile.

The NTA provides these merit lists to central and state counselling authorities for admission purposes. The respective counselling authorities will then publish subsequent merit lists detailing the NEET state rank in 2024 according to their guidelines. State counselling authorities will prepare merit lists for candidates native to their state.

NEET Counselling 2024

Based on the NEET 2024 results, the MCC conducts the NEET 2024 counselling online at mcc.nic.in. The counselling process covers different levels for 15% of All India Quota (AIQ) seats and 85% of state quota seats. Admissions to MBBS and BDS seats across the country will follow these criteria:

15% All India Quota seats: 15% of all government seats are reserved under the AIQ and are filled through counselling conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on behalf of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

85% State Quota seats: The remaining 85% of seats in government and private medical colleges are reserved under the state quota. The respective state counselling authorities will manage admissions for these seats according to state-specific eligibility and domicile rules.

Central Institutes/Universities/Deemed Universities: All seats in medical and dental central institutes/universities, as well as deemed universities, will be allocated based on NEET 2024 results. The MCC will conduct counselling for 100% of these seats.

State/Management/NRI Quota seats: Admissions for State/Management/NRI quota seats offered by private medical or dental colleges or any private university will be based on NEET 2024 results.

Central Pool Quota seats: Qualified candidates nominated under Central Pool quota seats will be granted admission based on their NEET 2024 scores, with counselling conducted by the MCC.

After the NEET result, how do you apply for NEET UG 2024 counselling?

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts the NEET counselling process for the 15% All India Quota, while the respective state authorities handle counselling for the remaining 85% state quota. Here are the steps to apply for counselling after the NEET result:

  1. Visit the official website of the counselling authority, such as the MCC at mcc.nic.in, or the state-level counselling board.
  2. Locate the NEET UG 2024 counselling registration link or notification on the website.
  3. Click on the registration link and carefully provide the necessary information, including personal details, NEET roll number, application number, and other required details.
  4. If applicable, pay the NEET 2024 counselling registration fee following the provided instructions.
  5. As per the counselling authority's instructions, upload the required documents, such as the NEET scorecard, admit card, identity proof, and any other specified NEET UG 2024 counselling documents.
  6. Submit the registration form and make sure to save or print the confirmation page for future reference.

NEET result 2024- Tie-Breaking Method

In instances where two or more candidates achieve the same score, NEET utilises tie-breaking criteria to determine the inter-se-merit of All India Rank in the NEET 2024 result. Medical aspirants can review the tie-breaking criteria employed in the NEET 2024 merit list below:

  1. Biology Marks: Candidates with higher scores in Biology will be given precedence in the NEET 2024 result on neet.ntaonline.in.
  2. Chemistry Marks: If the criterion above does not resolve the tie, candidates with higher scores in Chemistry will be favoured.
  3. Fewer Incorrect Answers: If the tie persists, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers in NEET 2024 will receive a higher order of merit.
  4. Age Factor: While the latest NEET UG 2024 update eliminated the consideration of age in tie-breaking, it will be reinstated from the second round of NEET Counselling.

NEET exam result 2024 validity

NEET scores are typically valid for the ongoing academic session or one year when applying to Indian colleges. However, recognising the potentially lengthier admissions processes for international institutions, the MCI announced an extension of NEET validity to three years for admission to foreign colleges.

Candidates are strongly advised to download and securely store their NEET exam results in 2024 from the official website, neet.ntaonline.in. This result should be retained for a minimum of 90 days from the declaration date, as it will be required during counselling and medical admissions. Admission to medical courses will be granted based on counselling following the NEET 2024 result declaration.

Courses offered through NEET 2024 result

  • MBBS and BDS: NEET is the sole gateway for admission to MBBS and BDS programs in government and private colleges, central universities, and deemed institutes/universities across India, including AIIMS and JIPMER, which are now part of NEET 2024.
  • AYUSH courses: The NTA NEET result serves as the admission criterion for all AYUSH courses available nationwide, encompassing Ayurveda (BAMS), Yoga and Naturopathy (BNYS), Unani (BUMS), Siddha (BSMS), and Homeopathy (BHMS).
  • B.V.Sc. and AH courses: Admissions to 15% All India Quota seats in Veterinary colleges offering B.VSc. and AH courses (excluding Jammu & Kashmir) are also based on the NEET UG 2024 result.

What after the NEET UG 2024 result?

NEET-qualified candidates (excluding those from J&K) are eligible to partake in the centralised counselling conducted by the MCC for the All India Quota. They can register for this centralised NEET Counselling.

Candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir who qualify for the exam but choose not to participate in the All India Quota counselling can register for the state counselling process of J&K.

Additionally, qualified candidates can register for the state counselling processes of their respective states if they meet the eligibility criteria established by the state authorities.
Conclusion

The Supreme Court has cancelled the NEET 2024 results for 1,563 candidates who received grace marks. These candidates have the option to retake the exam on June 23, and their new results will be announced on June 30. Those who do not retake the exam will have their original scores without grace marks considered as their final results. The NEET 2024 results were declared on June 4, 2024, and are available on the official website. The scorecard includes personal details, marks, ranks, and cutoff scores for general and reserved categories. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct the 15% All India counselling for qualified candidates.
