World Physical Therapy Day 2021

World Physical Therapy Day is an occasion to honour physiotherapists' contributions to their patients and the community. Let us learn more about World Physical Therapy Day 2021, including the theme, benefits, and significance.

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy

It is a discipline that helps people improve their mobility and maintain their physical function. It can relieve pain, improve their quality of life, and prevent future injuries. A physical therapist can help individuals reach their goals and restore their full physical function.

Significance of World Physiotherapy Day:

physiotherapy

On September 8, World Physical Therapy Day is observed to honour the physical therapists and recognize the vital role played by them in helping people maintain their health and well-being as well as give chronic pain remedies.

Physical Therapy is commemorated to promote awareness about physical therapists' vital role

Physical therapists attempt to repair the damage, educate patients on healthy habits, and reclaim damaged functionality. Low back pain, cervical and thoracic pain, shoulder pain, headache disorders, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis are among illnesses that can cause chronic pain. Therapy can help people overcome the effects of chronic pain.

Physiotherapy is not only for athletes but also for regular individuals. A physiotherapist can help people who have suffered injuries as a result of an accident or injury. Aside from exercise and other forms of rehabilitation and comfort, a physiotherapist may also help a patient mentally navigate the recovery process, which is crucial. This helps people recover faster and move about more freely.

Indians have also been known to use certain exercises and instructions to treat arthritis.

If you believe that persons with impairments are incapable of treating other people's pain, there are hundreds of physiotherapists across the country who would confidently disagree.

Here are some of the physiotherapists and their inspirational life stories for you.

1. Kritika Purohit:

She is the first-ever visually impaired doctor in India. An Optical nerve injury in childhood caused Dr Kritika Purohit to lose her vision. This did not, however, discourage her from realising her dream.

Following a talk with her family after her SSC examinations, this 24-year-old girl from Mumbai's Nallasopara realised she wanted to be a doctor. Purohit's road hasn't been easy since she completed her SSC through the National Association For Blind.

One of the biggest challenges she faced was taking the Common Entrance Test (CET) for the DMER (Directorate of Medical Education and Research)

After passing the exam, she received the certificate from the Maharashtra State Council for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in Mumbai.

As a result, she became the country's first government-certified visually challenged doctor.

2. Narendra Kumar Chelani:

Narendra Kumar Chelani, a physiotherapist with over 30 years of experience, takes on all difficult problems head-on.

He graduated from Bombay's Victoria Memorial School for the Blind with a three-year certificate in physiotherapy. He has his own clinic, Jigyasa Physiotherapy Clinic, and works at Geeta Bhavan Hospital, a government hospital.

...and many other physiotherapists who continue to inspire us!

  3. Further Improvement: In case you're experiencing difficulty standing, strolling or moving—regardless of your age—Physical therapy can be useful.
  4. Physiotherapy aids post-stroke patients in regaining their level of function, balance, and movement. Special workouts also assist them in resuming their regular activities.

  5. Diabetic patients frequently complain of pain in their knees, shoulders, and backs as a result of poor sugar management. Sugar levels can be managed with the use of diet and exercise routines.
