Chances are, no matter where you are in the world, you have had a teacher who you remember for the positive impact they had on your life- someone who helped you finally grasp a difficult concept or experience a learning moment that defined your classroom experience.

Every year on October 5, the world celebrates International Teachers' Day or World Teachers' Day. World Teachers’ Day is commemorated to celebrate a day to reflect on issues concerning teachers and education.

History of World Teachers’ Day:

World Teachers' Day commemorates the anniversary of the 1966 International Labour Organization /United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recommendation on teacher status.

World Teachers’ Day is to supplement the 1966 recommendation, the recommendation concerning the status of higher education teaching personnel which was adopted in 1997.

On this World Teachers’ Day 2021, let us take a look at the World Teachers’ Day 2021 theme:

Theme of teachers day

The theme for this year's World Teachers' Day has yet to be announced. "Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future" was the theme from the previous year for World Teachers' Day.

On this World Teachers’ Day 2021, let us look at the significance of World Teachers’ Day:

World Teachers’ Day highlights teachers' rights and responsibilities, as well as international standards for initial and continuing education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning conditions.

World Teachers’ Day recognises the teaching profession and focuses on current issues affecting teachers.

World Teachers’ Day 2021 statistics:
  • In India, the proportion of female teachers decreases with school distance from 60%
  • More teachers are needed in refugee camps. However, due to professional regulations on the right to work, refugee teachers are frequently excluded from national training programmes.
  • Female teachers make up nearly 94 percent of those in pre-primary education, but only about half of those in upper secondary education.
  • In low-income countries, the proportion of female primary school teachers (41%) is half that of high-income countries (82 percent ).
  • Only 23% of secondary school teachers in low-income countries are female. At the tertiary level, women make up only 19 percent of teachers in low-income countries and 46 percent or less in higher-income countries.
On this World Teachers’ Day 2021, let us take a look at teachers and Brainwonders :

Teachers play an important role in the development of a student's life. Their values, attitudes, and career choices are heavily influenced. Most educational institutions work with community members, employers, and parents to prepare students for a variety of roles that will be useful throughout their lives. It is critical to creating a harmonious society in order for students to be prepared for work and for people or communities of people to recognise the convergent view with the goal of every student becoming engaged and productive citizens by increasing the capability of replicating democracy.

According to a recent survey by Brainwonders in a metropolitan city, 76% of respondents responded that they need emotional regulation. Teachers have hence contributed to maintaining their students' careers as their priority.

Teachers’ role in Career Counselling:

Counselling

Career counselling is a method of engaging students in discussions about their future careers. It assists students in making decisions about how and what to study. Career Counseling advises students not to be perplexed by their decision. Career counselling assists students in making career decisions. Students have found it difficult to pursue a career at their desired institutions.

As a result, parents and students are under a lot of pressure to help their children advance in their careers. In such cases, career counselling helps students and parents understand what is best for them.

As the initial point of interaction with students, teachers play a very important role in student's life. They first know students, their interests and their abilities.

Teachers can initiate career aspirations in young minds. They help students with stress-related problems.

Students who are specially-abled, need special guidance from teachers and teachers to play a major role in the lives of such individuals.

5 Benefits of career counselling :
  1. Strategies for overcoming competition through counselling.
  2. Pathway to education guide.
  3. Choosing the right career.
  4. Choosing a timetable and a career path.
  5. Aiding in the acquisition of the appropriate skills.
Why is DMIT the need of the hour?

DMIT

DMIT- Dermatoglyphics is a branch of science that studies the patterns of skin ridges found on human fingers and soles. It reveals the innate connections between our fingers and our inherent qualities and talents.

It is a biometric analysis based on fingerprint science. DMIT is beneficial for everyone, but it is especially useful for parents to understand a child's innate strengths as well as areas that need to be moulded.

Every child is endowed with unique qualities and potential. If we can understand a child's innate characteristics and aptitude using scientific methods, we can better teach them. If one is naturally strong, more clarity makes the strong stronger. However, if a person is born weak and then fails to develop in later life/stages, he or she may lose that ability. As a result, it is critical to provide accurate and appropriate stimulation as soon as possible to avoid the deterioration of valuable ability.

On this World Teachers’ Day, hence it is important to understand career counselling and its importance in life.
