What are Humanities and how is it different from Arts?

Arts and humanities streams are said to be two of the oldest branches of study. The distinction between the two is often perceived as ambiguous. While art is considered as a more all-encompassing profession, humanities encompass a wide range of topics, from literature to political history, which are sometimes unconnected.

Humanities subjects allow us to see things from many viewpoints. Science and mathematics are examples of subjects where a topic cannot be construed in more than one manner. For instance, no alternative way to express the rule of motion may exist. It's just the way it is. In the same manner, we can't draw a circle any other way but round. Humanities subjects, on the other hand, allow individuals to interpret things from a variety of perspectives. Whether it's Shakespeare or The Revolt of 1857, everyone may have an opinion and see things from their point of view. People who study humanities have exceptional writing, speaking, reading, and communication abilities.

In India, there are five main educational boards. Almost all of them provide Humanities subjects in 11th, though the courses vary. Some of the subjects are compulsory, while others are optional.

What are the Humanities Subjects choices?

Subject selections in class 11 may seem like standing at the entrance of an amusement park, looking at all the attractions, and being completely unsure which ride to choose first.

Don't worry, we have got you covered. Here are ten humanities disciplines presented in class 11 and their potential career paths.

1. English:

English

In all three streams, English is one of the compulsory subjects. English encompasses both English Literature and English Grammar. Prose, poetry, and short tales are all forms of literature. Grammar, on the other hand, entails employing creativity and language to write essays, short tales, letters, and SOPs, among other things. English as a professional path offers a wide range of opportunities, including content writers, content developers, journalists, authors, and academics.

2. Economics:

Economics

Economics is the study of the processes or methods by which products and services are created, sold, and purchased, as well as how the economy is run at both the macro and micro levels (macroeconomics and microeconomics). You can work in banking, insurance, service and manufacturing enterprises, real estate, consultancy, government agencies, and non-profit organisations after studying Economics.

3. Maths:

Maths

The CBSE curriculum uniquely combines Humanities and Mathematics. Math isn't only for science students. You may benefit from the logical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities that Maths helps to instil as a humanities student as well. This combination will not only satisfy a desire to learn about two different subjects, but it will also provide access to several courses that would otherwise be unavailable (For instance, Economics Hons). Mathematics is required if you intend to pursue numbers-intensive disciplines such as Data Analytics, Actuarial Science, Finance, and so on.

4. Psychology:

Psychology

The scientific study of the human mind and behaviour is known as psychology. It focuses on the study of human experiences, behaviours, and mental processes in a socio-cultural and historical context. It covers several sub-fields, such as child and development psychology, sports psychology, health psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, and so on, because it is a diverse subject. It's a fascinating read for anybody interested in learning more about human behaviour. Psychology is a broad area that can be combined with an array of other disciplines, including marketing, business, and neurology. A bachelor's or master's degree in psychology is available, and students may combine their interests with psychology to create a unique professional path.

5. Geography:

Grography

It is the study of the earth's surface and how humans interact with it. It encompasses a) physical geographic notions such as landforms, flora and fauna, as well as their evolution, distribution, and development. b) human geography, which includes population, economics, transportation, and so on; and c) cartography, which is the study of how maps are made. Graduates in geography are in great demand in the government sector. After graduation, one can appear for the UPSC examination to pursue a job in the government sector.

6. Physical Education:

It's a simple subject to score, and it's a fun one for sports fans. You'll learn about physical fitness, healthy living, and sports. Different sorts of sports, yoga, physical activity and leadership training, sports psychology, sports measures, principles of anatomy and physiology, sports training, doping, and so on are all covered under this heading. It is both a theoretical and practical subject. This subject is appropriate for someone passionate about sports.

7. Political Science:

Political science examines political processes, the functioning of various forms of governments and institutional structures, in addition to an array of administrative ideas and concepts. If you're interested in power and politics, as well as international policy, Political Science is the course for you. History, Public Administration, and Political Science are all good selections since they complement each other. Studying political science will increase your critical thinking skills, reasoning capacity, research aptitude, and analytical abilities, among other things. Journalism, civil service, and political strategist are just a few of the employment options available to people who want to study political science.

8. History:

World history, the industrial revolution, early cultures, empires, and other topics are covered in class 11 history. In class 12, on the other hand, you take a deep dive into Indian history, beginning with the Harappan culture and progressing through the British era and post-independence India. Teaching, research, archaeology, conservation management, civil service, and public administration are just a few of the careers available to history majors.

In class 11, students who are aware of and intrigued about the world around them - its history, society, systems, laws, and so on – are a suitable match for the humanities stream. However, before making any decisions, I would advise you to conduct an extensive study and conduct a complete examination of your interests, aptitudes, and professional objectives. If you're still unsure, get professional advice.
