JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA

Bind with the vision of bringing out the best of rural talent, the National Policy on Education-1986 set up numerous residential schools, which came to be known as Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Currently, 661 JNVs are present in 27 states and eight union territories.

The setting up of navodaya vidyalaya began as an experiment to counteract the illiteracy rate in the countryside and level them to compete with their suburban counterparts. And now, this experiment has taken the form of a beast unparalleled in driving schools, providing the best education at minimum fees.

Objectives of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti:

  • Providing quality education to rural kids irrespective of their poor economic conditions
  • To promote national integration by offering interschool exchange programs all over the country
  • Ensuring comparability and safeguarding the heritage of people in co-ed schools
  • To establish and maintain hostels for the scholars of navodaya vidyalaya.

JNVST: Merit-Based Exam

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti conducts entrance exams yearly for class 6 and 9 admissions under Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), designed by NCERT and CBSE. The Exam is taught at all levels in every country district annually, and the exam pattern is objective to give a fair chance to every student while attempting the test.

Reservation of Seats:

  • About 75% of seats is currently reserved for rural student portals.
  • Students from scheduled tribes and castes are given a share that is not less than the national average (15% for SC and 7.5% for ST). These reservations are interchangeable.
  • 27% of the whole chunk is given to scholars of other backward castes.
  • Students fill 3% of the seats with physical disabilities or Divyang kids.
  • One-third of the seats are reserved for girls.

Eligibility: 

For class 6th Candidate:

  • Students belonging to the district of the actual location of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya are eligible to apply for the Exam.
  • Students applying for class 6th exams must be enrolled in class 5th of any governmental, local, or national open school in the same district.
  • Students claiming rural quota must have passed classes 3 to 5 from a government-aided or recognised local school in the same district.
  • Every candidate is eligible to appear only once unless the class is repeated.

For class 9th candidate:

  • Candidates studying in class 8th in the ongoing session from a government or a governmental recognised school are eligible to appear for JNV class 9 test.
  • Students belonging to the district of the actual location of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya are eligible to apply for the Exam.
  • Students must pass out class 8 at the time of admission.

Required Documents for JNVST:

The following is the list of necessary documents after the selection of the candidate, -irrespective of the class.

  • Residence Certificate
  • Birth Certificate or any other certificate with proof of date of birth.
  • Eligibility proof according to the conditions of JNV
  • Rural quota certificate.

APPLICATION DETAILS:

STEP 1: Visit the official link: http://cbseitms.in/nvsregn/index.aspx for the class 6 application process or www.nvsadmissionclassnine.in/nvs/homepage for class 9 admission.

STEP 2: Fill in all the details and upload your passport-size photographs in provided space.

STEP 3: Enter your academic details.

STEP 4: Upload the candidate's and guardian's signatures.

STEP 5: Recheck all the details carefully and submit the form

STEP 6: Print the application form for future use.

Application Fees:

Registration: Free of cost

Class 9 to class 12 has to pay Rs. 600 as board and lodging, uniform, and textbook fees every month. Students from SC, ST, all girls, and those whose families are below the poverty line are not obliged to pay any monetary amount. The wards of government employees, except the spared category, will be charged Rs. 1500 under the Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi.

How many students are selected for the navodaya exam?

Around 27 lakh students registered for the navodaya entrance exam conducted by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. However, only 20 lakh students appear on the actual examination day at the designated site, out of which a mere proportion of 50,000 students are selected annually. Students can check out the results in both online and offline modes.
