What is an aptitude test and example?

An aptitude test is designed to measure what an individual is capable of achieving or to forecast what an individual can learn or perform given the correct education and guidance. It shows an individual level of competency to perform a particular type of task. Aptitude tests are generally used to assess academic potential or career suitability and even to demonstrate mental or physical talents in various types of discipline.

Aptitude tests help people know about their innate talents and abilities and how well they function. It also provides much more information about one's skills and shortcomings, so taking the aptitude exam to understand them is even better. Aptitude tests can help you learn about a person's abilities, strengths and weaknesses, interests, and many other things.

This test measures the individual's ability to make logical connections between the available set of information. A high level of abstract reasoning is related to creativity and helps solve unique problems.

This test analyses an individual's aptitude for numbers. This test is designed in such a way that it helps to measure the numeracy of an individual. Numerical, mathematical, and statistical questions are often asked in numerical reasoning tests. These tests are primarily conducted in organisations looking for accountants, bankers, etc.

General Aptitude Test

The general aptitude test asks individuals relevant subject questions and scores their exam preparedness based on their responses. It identifies a student's weak and robust learning areas. This allows them to study concepts more effectively and achieve a higher rating.

Spatial Reasoning Test

The spatial reasoning test or spatial awareness test is the test that assesses your abilities to determine and analyse unique shapes and observes how your mind processes still images. How do I prepare for an aptitude test?

As we all know, aptitude tests in organisations are conducted to determine the aptitude of particular applicants based on their performance, and they are shortlisted for other rounds. If you know you will be taking the aptitude test, the most important advice we can give you is to practise beforehand.

Practise the aptitude test by making the most of your preparation time. Most people only have one or two days to prepare for aptitude tests. So make sure you prepare thoroughly before the exam. The following methods will assist you in preparing for an aptitude test:

  1. Determine the type of aptitude exam you'll be taking. It would help if you asked the hiring manager for practice questions. Sometimes the person in charge of hiring will ask you the questions ahead of time so you can get acclimated to them.
  2. Review the sample questions the organisation or the recruitment representative provided.
  3. Take the online aptitude tests.

Is an IQ test an aptitude test?

People often get confused about whether to go for an aptitude or IQ test. They have confused the aptitude test assessment with the IQ test, but they are very different as they deliver different results and measure various parameters.

Simply defined, an IQ (Intelligence Quotient) exam determines how brilliant a person is statistically, and an aptitude (General Intelligence) test determines how well that person can apply their intelligence to various settings.

Can you fail the aptitude test?

An aptitude test for employment is not a pass/fail exam. Even though there are correct and incorrect answers, a candidate cannot fail. A low score can result from rushing through the questions or spending too much time on a single question. As a result, the candidate must respond to the questions to the best of their ability.

Is a 120 IQ good?

Having 120 is actually a good IQ score, which is also above average. As the average IQ is between 85 and 115. The people who have 120 IQ have a bright intelligence. They tend to be more superior, focused and attentive. Even the grasping power of the individuals who fall in the same category is very high. With the help of IQ assessment, one can measure their range of mental abilities, including verbal reasoning, spatial awareness, processing speed, pattern recognition, verbal ability and visual abilities.

What is a normal IQ?

IQ tests are made to have an average score of 100. Psychologists always realise the test every few years to maintain 100 as the average IQ score. So we can easily say that having an IQ between 85 and 115 falls under normal IQ. Almost 68% of the people have an IQ score between 85 and 115. Only a small fraction of people have a very high IQ above 130 or a very low IQ below 70.
